Many gardens don't need a complete redesign; they just need love, a good eye and some horticultural knowledge to bring them back to glory.

If the fundamental design is good then sympathetic repairs, remedial pruning, soil improvement and replacement planting will be all that is needed.

Even badly planned and planted gardens can contain successful elements and mature shrubs that can be reused to better effect within an improved layout.

As most gardens have a flourishing if unseen ecosystem it makes sense to save what is worthwhile. The thing to be cherished above all else is the atmosphere that can sometimes be found in an old established garden.
